Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-04
FlashType is built privacy-first. In plain terms: your snippets stay on your device.
What we store, and where
- Snippets and settings are stored locally using Chrome's
storage.localAPI. They are never transmitted to us or any third party. - We do not operate a server that receives your snippets, the text you type, or the pages you visit.
What leaves your device
- License validation only. If you enter a Pro license key, that key is sent to our payment provider (Lemon Squeezy) solely to activate and verify the purchase. No other data accompanies it.
- The
{clipboard}variable reads your clipboard locally to insert it into an expansion. Clipboard contents are never transmitted. - Optional encrypted sync (off by default). If you enable Cross-device sync, your snippets are end-to-end encrypted on your device (AES-GCM with a key derived from your passphrase) and synced via your Chrome profile. Only the encrypted blob is stored — your passphrase is never synced, and we never receive your snippets in readable form.
What we do NOT do
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no selling of data.
- No reading or logging of the content of the web pages you visit.
- No account or sign-up required.
Permissions, briefly
- storage — save your snippets/settings locally.
- contextMenus — the "Save selection as snippet" right-click item.
- clipboardRead / clipboardWrite — the
{clipboard}variable and click-to-copy. - alarms — periodically re-validate a Pro license.
- host access to api.lemonsqueezy.com — validate Pro license keys.
- access to the sites you type on — required so expansion works in text fields; the extension only reads what it needs to detect and replace your own abbreviations.
Data deletion
Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored snippets and settings. You can also export or delete them anytime from the Options page.
